"If there is an artist to watch for in 2022 and beyond, Kate Reid is that artist. Kate is able to connect with the audience with music that is honest, relatable and sincere. She is a Force to be reckoned with in Alberta's Music Scene" - K.Walters CJSW 90.9 FM (Off the Map)
Born in Whitehorse, Yukon, Kate was drawn to country music at an early age. She idolized Terri Clark, Leann Rimes, Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, Sara Evans, and Reba, and would serenade the neighbors from her backyard swing set with her own renditions of any and every song they would listen too. She began playing piano at the age of 5 and continued all the way into high school where she was part of many school bands and vocal groups. She competed in the Royal Conservatory of Music each year, and began performing all over her home town and northern communities with a mix of covers and original songs. At 15, her mom’s boss generously gifted her first guitar, and she would spend countless hours teaching herself every Taylor Swift song she could find.
Kate traveled to Vancouver to audition for Canada's Got Talent after high school, and took every possible opportunity to grow as an artist. She moved to Saskatchewan to pursue an education in her second passion-agriculture, then on to Alberta for work opportunities. But music never left her side.
Now a country singer/songwriter based in Calgary, Alberta, Kate is influenced by artists such as Carrie Underwood, Reba, Meghan Patrick, Lindsay Ell, and Carly Pearce. She has songs that range from a traditional country vibe to a more modern country flair.
The past year has been astronomical for Kate's music career. She has had the opportunity to work with industry professionals in Nashville and Alberta, including Stephen Shiveley, Charlotte Avenue Entertainment, Jordan Craig, and Grant Howarth, and released her first single and music video for "Numb" March of 2021. She was nominated for the YYC Prophets of Music Emerging Artist Award for 2021, and is set to release her debut EP within the following months. Kate’s hope is that her music will be for others what country music has always been for her-an outlet. A safe place to feel, process, vent, and heal. The relatability of country music is always what she has craved most and if one of her songs can be that for someone else, then that to her is what it’s all about.
